Viruses

What are viruses?

Viruses are a type of malicious code or program written to alter the way a computer operates and is designed to spread from one computer to another. How do these viruses attack? These viruses lie dormant in your computer system until something causes the virus’ code to be executed. For example, if you run the system that the virus infected, that virus would run and fulfill whatever purpose it was designed to do.

How do I prevent this problem?

Viruses are spread through text messaging attachments, scam links, file downloads, and also are disguised as shareable content like funny images, greeting cards, or audio and video files. The possible effects computer viruses can have are stealing passwords and personal data, corrupting files, spamming email contacts, erasing data, or causing permanent damage to the hard disk. Some viruses that take over the computer’s information and performance are sometimes designed for financial gain. Ways to avoid and prevent a computer virus as much as you can are the following: never download links, text, or email attachments that you aren’t expecting, avoid clicking on pop-up ads, use trusted antivirus program that inspects your computer for viruses, and scan files you download with file sharing programs. Even after these preventions, it is completely possible that a virus will still get into your computer system. When you realize your computer is a home for a virus, get rid of the virus by using an antivirus program or manually do it yourself by going through a long list of steps on the internet (expertise needed).
